Ethernet over Copper – 10 U.S. incumbent operators profiled by FierceTelecom last week

Feb 23, 2012

In the flurry of news last week, it would be easy to miss a very meaty report by Sean Buckley of FierceTelecom.  In the series of stories, Sean profiled ten US incumbant operators and their Ethernet over Copper (EoC).  As most of the operators profiled are customers of Overture, we read it with eager anticipation.

We were struck by how , while each service provider seemed to be view the strategic nature of EoC a little differently, they all were having success in using it to augment their larger Ethernet over Fiber deployments.  As Buckley states in his article, “EoC is part of the larger mid-band Ethernet segment, which includes other delivery mechanisms (i.e. EoFiber, EoHFC, EoTDM, and Ethernet over PON)–one that Frost and Sullivan forecasts exceeded $1 billion in revenues in 2011,” so this segment is obviously a very important one for service providers and solutions vendors like Overture.

Here are some of the more interesting individual stories.

Please tell us what your EoC plans are, by commenting on this article.

Enjoy.
