SDN: Breaking it Down

Jun 02, 2014

Although the breakthroughs in virtualization and automation originated in the cloud datacenter environment, service providers and network operators will clearly benefit from the programmability offered by Software-Defined Networking (SDN). This is the crux of the white paper SDN Enables Virtualization and Automation authored by Overture Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, R&D Prayson Pate.

The white paper stems from Prayson’s participation in the Telecommunications Industry Association’s (TIA) Network of the Future conference where he is a panelist in the session SDN Cloud Perspective: Virtualization and Automation. In the paper, Prayson details how the telecom world will make the same transition to dynamic virtualized resources with an increasing emphasis on automated control as it pushes SDN outside the confines of the datacenter and puts its resources behind an NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) initiative.

The paper was selected to be part of TIA’s Future of the Network Action Report, which captured the key takeaways, outcomes and suggested action steps for the industry from the event. To read Prayson’s treatise on SDN, virtualization and automation, please follow this link:
