Delivering the Transition to the Cloud – Lessons for CSPs

I recently had a chat with Russell Fleischer, CEO of HighJump Software, which is a provider of supply chain management software.  HighJump started with traditional onsite approach to software solutions, but has since moved to the cloud.  HighJump’s Chuck Fuerst describes some of the “Benefits Of Cloud In Logistics” in the December 2013 issues of CIO Review, including flexibility, pay-as-you-go, TCO, incremental features and security.  I asked Russell Fleischer about how HighJump uses the cloud to deliver these benefits.  This blog will describe his thoughts, and will also suggest that the lessons learned by HighJump also apply to Communications Service Providers (CSPs).

Behind the Scenes at NFV#5 in Malaga

Overture CTO, Prayson PateThe European industry body ETSI Industry Study Group (ISG) has been working on Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) for a year now.  That anniversary was marked by the recent NFV#5 meeting in Malaga, Spain.  Here are a few notes from that meeting.

Meeting Locale

Malaga is in the southwest part of Spain and is not far from Gibraltar.  Several of the attendees took advantage of this fact to participate in pre-meeting day trips down to Gibraltar.  The town of Malaga itself is very pleasant and has a large section of shops and restaurants that make for a pleasant evening stroll and eating adventure.

Great news on the Network Functions Virtualization front.

You may have read this morning that CloudNFV – the group of vendors Overture joined forces with on NFV – received notification that our proof of concept submission to ETSI was accepted.  There are a couple of public articles that have been published today. We expect to see more later today.
