ISG 20, ISG 22 and ISG 24 - Ethernet over 10/100/1000

Ethernet demarcation. The point where the networks meet is rapidly becoming the nexus for management information. It is also the point where some of the shortcomings of Ethernet as a wide area service are often pointed out. These shortcomings include:
- Lack of consistent Ethernet interface at all locations - local and remote
- Lack of OAM (Operations, Administration and Maintenance)
- Lack of Performance Monitoring Capabilities
- Lack of SLA Assurance Capabilities
- No clear demarcation points between the Carrier and the End Customer
- No loopback capabilities
- Little or no testability of the carrier circuit
- No fault isolation features
The ISG 2x series from Overture Networks were designed and built with these issues in mind. This low cost family of products address these issues by:
- Setting a clear and consistent demarcation point between the customers' and the carriers' networks—no matter which vendors’ products are used in the core or edge networks
- Delivering a consistent management interface through standards-based operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) protocols
- Acting as onsite technicians, responding to remote service requests for loopbacks and other remote diagnostics, which keeps truck rolls to a minimum
- Monitoring and reporting on the end-to-end parameters of your Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
The ISG 2x family consists of:
- ISG 20 - 10/100BaseT to 10/100BaseT
- ISG 22 - 10/100BaseT to 100BaseFX
- ISG 24 - 10/100/1000 TX/FX/LX/SX to 10/100/1000 TX/FX/LX/SX
The ISG 2x products, running under the EdgeAware umbrella, implement standards-based OAM (including 802.3ah EFM OAM) and loopbacks. In addition, the ISG 2x's provide performance monitoring that measures and tracks end-to-end SLA parameters such as latency, jitter, packet loss and availability - while the services are running.
