Customers are asking for Ethernet services at price points comparable to what they pay for low speed circuit-based services. Further, not all infrastructures in place today are designed to support Ethernet services, which means service providers must either build out new networks or create overlays, neither of which is economical for single or remote customers. The ISG 45, ISG 45+ and ISG 34 are designed to allow providers to reach these customers—without installing costly new infrastructure—at price points that make it practical and cost-effective to offer these new Ethernet services.
The ISG 45 and ISG 45+ can attach to an existing SONET ADM, DS3 fixed wireless link, or a leased DS3 facility. Two subscriber Ethernet ports enable prioritized traffic to be fed to the network. In a hub-and-spoke configuration, several ISG 45s can feed the larger ISG 5000 or other aggregation switches and can be managed in-band through the DS3 connection. The ISG 45 and ISG 45+ can also be paired back-to-back to deliver cost-effective point-to-point Ethernet and TDM interconnections.
For applications requiring Ethernet over E3 connectivity, the ISG 34 is a simple, low cost solution.

By starting with the ISG 45, ISG 45+ or ISG 34, a carrier is able to enter a single customer location and capture Ethernet service revenue with a low, first-cost solution that can be deployed today and pay for itself within a few months—without having to invest in a costly build-out of the metro network. Applications include:
With the addition of the ISG 45, ISG 45+ and ISG 34 to the ISG product family, carriers and enterprises can deploy managed Ethernet services over the thousands of installed SONET/SDH add/drop multiplexers (ADMs) and rapidly extend these Ethernet services to off-net locations via leased and wireless facilities.
Deliver management and service intelligence to the remote customer edge
Using the ISG 45 and ISG 45+ in conjunction with the ISG 5000 or ISG 2200 delivers the greatest value to the customer, as more intelligent services and management capabilities can be leveraged via hub-and-spoke configuration. With a single ISG 5000 serving as the hub, up to nine ISG 45 and ISG 45+s can be deployed across a metropolitan area, an office park or up the risers in a multi-tenant building to deliver managed Ethernet services.
In this configuration, each of the ISG 45 and ISG 45+s can be managed in-band via a management VLAN or out-of-band via Ethernet. This remote management capability allows carriers to extend IP management visibility all the way to the remote customer edge. From a single operator viewpoint, a carrier can remotely manage and provision each individual ISG without ever having to touch the unit itself.
The ISG 45, ISG 45+ and ISG 34 units are truly designed for plug-and-play operation. Installation is simple and configurations can be performed remotely. These three ISGs also offer two hands-off cable tests—one for the DS3 or E3 uplink and one for the customer's Ethernet connection using a built-in Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR).
